Dr. Jiwon Jeong

Dr. Jeong is an experienced researcher and leader in the development of solutions to improve quality, extend shelf-life, and add value to fruits, vegetables, and flowers. He has consulted globally, from the U.S. and Latin America to South Korea, on postharvest technology, processes, and infrastructure projects. 

Before joining Breakthrough Solutions, Jiwon led Chiquita’s North American & European R&D teams. His work there included developing new modified atmosphere packaging for bananas that delivered labor cost savings; improving banana and avocado ripening processes via extended shelf-life and energy savings; and developing the company’s “Global R&D Banana Handbook” with nutritional analysis and sensory profile guidelines for new banana varieties and value-added products.

Jiwon has a Ph.D in Horticultural Science from the University of Florida. He holds patents and has developed SOPs for sustainable & modified atmosphere packaging; ethylene inhibitors & formulations; and ripening processes.
